ARE YOU READY TO CROSS OVER?  WHAT IS STOPPING YOU?!

Bridge of Salvation

By William J Doran Jr

There once was a self righteous man,
who withstood all by his own hand
and he dwelled in the land of sin,
where all his life he had been

The land was surrounded by a great chasm,
the depths of which gave one to spasm
and across the chasm was another place,
and it was called; "The Land of God's Grace"

Over there everyone dressed in white,
and seemed to glow in the night
All had once lived where the man did,
and somehow across the chasm they had slid

Now it was said that there was a great bridge,
that appeared and connected ridge to ridge
Then it was possible for one to cross,
and into the chasm not be loss

The story that he had heard,
seemed to be ridiculous and absurd
But yet he knew some on the other side,
and surely somehow across they did ride

In the distance he could hear them sing,
continually the sound of music did ring
and daily they gave praise to God,
but to the man their ways seemed odd

Now it was a custom in this land,
when one could no longer stand
to cast the body over the ledge's side,
and into the chasm let it glide

And it was said, this was hell,
to where all the bodies fell
but the soul lived on in fiery flames,
for in the land of sin it had played games

The man shivered at these thoughts,
and in secret he devised plots
to cross over to the other side,
so at death into the chasm he would not slide

But he knew of others who had tried,
but each one in the chasm had died
This choice he knew he had to make,
while there was life and he was awake

For he had been told by others,
close friends and blood brothers
How to come over to where they were,
and it was true and sure

For he saw them in the distance,
as they jumped about in dance
Beckoning him to come their way,
and stay for a never ending day

So, the man went to where the bridge would appear,
and he trembled and was gripped with fear
and in sincerity, he began to repent,
so into hell he would not be sent

And for many a day he cried,
and more and more on God he relied
Then a transparent bridge appeared,
but it's transparency he feared

Then a voice spoke; "Cross over the bridge,
from sin's ridge to grace's ridge
For I am with you this day,
keep me in mind all the way"

So, in faith the man began to walk,
and loud and clear he did talk
"Jesus, Jesus, Jesus", was his call,
and he walked, and he did not fall

And as he stepped onto the land of grace,
to his side his loved ones did race
and grabbed him in tender love,
and gave thanks to the one above

Then the man stopped and looked back,
and immediately knew what he had lack
The Love of God he had not had,
that is why, in the land of sin all is bad

Then he looked at the ridge,
and saw the disappearing bridge
and he realized the bridge was Jesus,
for he is the one who frees us

And the Lord said; "Today a new man is born,
and to God he is sworn
and the land of sin is depleted
and another with me is forever seated"

"Whosoever will come after me let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it" (Mark 8:34-35)
